PARADIPLOMACY AND THE PANDEMIC OF COVID-19

The Institute of Direct Diplomacy (IDD) is founded as the world begins its second year of fighting the pandemic caused by COVID-19. According to the United Nations, global cooperation is needed in the coming months to lessen the effects of the virus among the most vulnerable. In Brazil, the situation is particularly dramatic. The Brazilian federation has been unable to articulate internationally the institutional cooperation necessary for the country to be endowed with immunization, in quantity and speed, with a view to freeing its population from an unprecedented human tragedy.

In this context of profound suffering, states and municipalities are embarking on decentralized diplomatic actions in order to directly convince foreign partners to appease their need for vaccines and pharmaceutical supplies. The decline of the effects of the pandemic in Brazil tragically denudes how much the paradiplomacy, or "direct diplomacy", especially in countries of continental dimension, is an urgent and necessary theme to operate at all levels of human evolution.
