DIRECT DIPLOMACY OR PARADIPLOMACY
With the advancement of Globalization and the emergence of actors of transnational relevance, such as companies, non-governmental organizations and subnational governments (states and municipalities), the demand for decentralized international action is increasing.
"Paradiplomacy", or "direct diplomacy", supports the necessary articulation between local actors and their foreign counterparts.
IDD - Institute of Direct Diplomacy, is a "think and do tank" dedicated to the international dialogue and cooperation of Brazilian subnational entities, companies, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations. In its purpose, IDD uses direct diplomacy as a natural phenomenon driven by the revolution in the media.
The IDD, in its paradiplomatic action, is guided by the "triple helix" cooperation model, in which the academy and the local public and private sectors articulate to identify, research and develop solutions to socio-environmental challenges based on innovative foreign experiences .
Its operational model also adds a "fourth helix", organized civil society, and is guided, unconditionally, by the objectives of sustainable development established by the United Nations Agenda 2030.
THINK TANK
We act as a Think Tank promoting the intellectual reflection of themes that involve international relations.
GLOCAL CONNECTION
We advise subnational entities, NGOs and private institutions in prospecting opportunities and interacting with foreign counterparts.
CAPACITY BUILDING
We train and accredit professionals from the private and public sectors to work strategically with the paradiplomatic vision.

INITIATIVES
The paradiplomacy for subnational entities.
The globalization process together with the democratization and decentralization of the State's functions generated an increase in international interactions with the participation of several actors, in addition to national states. In particular, the subnational units - federal states and municipalities. The IDD will seek to guide and train subnational managers to expand relations at the international level.
Future of human housing
Aligned with SDG No. 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, the IDD seeks to collaborate in the formation of cities and inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements.
Thus, we are mapping initiatives in Brazil and abroad that seek to propose new models of human housing, incorporating technologies focused on 5 main axes: healthy eating; renewable energy; Intelligent water consumption; use of waste; sense of community.
Energy: International cooperation
IDD in line with UN 7.3 goal will seek to strengthen international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technologies, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced and cleaner fossil fuel technologies, as well as promoting investment in infrastructure energy and clean energy technologies.
